Oceanside is the third-largest city in San Diego County, California. The city has a population of about 179,681.Together with Carlsbad and Vista, it forms a tri-city area. The city is located just south of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, the busiest military base in the United States. Oceanside has experienced dramatic growth since 1970, when its population was 45,000. Much of the city’s area was developed into single-family home tracts during the 1970s and 1980s. Since the 1990s, increased commercial and industrial development have diversified Oceanside’s economic base.
Oceanside has a vibrant downtown located 35 miles north of downtown San Diego on the Pacific Ocean with 3.5 miles of pristine beaches which draws surfers, tourists, sightseers, and families. Recently the downtown area has gone through a transformation with new housing and hotels being built within walking distance to the beaches and the many activities in the downtown area. Eastern Oceanside offers many new home opportunities in new master planned communities.
Oceanside is served by the COASTER commuter train as well as METROLINK and AMTRAK’s Pacific Surfliner for easy commuting to San Diego and Los Angeles and is served by Interstate 5 and historic Pacific Coast Highway 101.
